TF1: Tracker Fonts 1: This resource comprises 2 sets of letters. A set of lower-case tracker font letters supports handwriting and the teaching of letter formation of lower-case alphabet letters. Each letter comes with a ‘sun’ in the top right-hand corner of the flashcard. A set of joined digraphs supplements the teaching of the digraphs.
The tracker-font letters are ideal for Early Years and Foundation Stage children with little hands who can trace within the letters with their finger or can draw within the tramlines. The joined digraphs can supplement the unjoined flashcards in the Sound Discovery® Manual whenever joined digraphs are required.
Details:
Joined Digraphs: The Sound Discovery Manual (SD1) already provides flash card sheets for the initial code: both for the alphabet and for the digraphs but as separate letters. However, it is an advantage to teach the digraphs as joined units to emphasise that they are also one sound.
This set of joined digraphs enables joined digraphs to be used in teaching. The set comprises: sh, ch, th (voiced), th (unvoiced), ng, ai, ee, ie, oa, ue, ar, er, or, oi, ou, oo (short), oo (long), plus qu. If required, the sheets can be laminated for use as flash cards.
Tracker Fonts: From the beginning Sound Discovery teaches how to form lower-case letters in the right direction, starting and finishing in the right place and in the correct position relative to a line.
This set of tracker font letters is uniquely created to show clearly where to start each letter (a dot), the right direction of movement (arrow and ‘sun’ symbol for point pf reference – going away or towards the ‘sun’) where to finish in the right place and the correct position relative to the line (a line).
A tracker font letter can be used from the beginning in the Snappy Lesson which teaches each letter sound. Teachers can cumulatively create a Tracker Font Alphabet Board for children to trace over with a finger, while they talk through the language of letter formation and say the sound.
The Tracker Fonts can also be used for individual handwriting practice, from the Early Years, starting at the dot and drawing within the tramlines. They can be laminated for use on display board/chart or left un-laminated for handwriting practice.
